I studied film production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, California.



The Independents is a documentary I am currently directing and co-editing with my partner, producer and fiancée, Lindsay Morrison.  This interview with comic creator Megan Levens was a directing sample I shot and cut to lay out and pitch my vision for the full film.

This is the third short film I directed in the masters program at USC School of Cinematic Arts.  From the start, I've loved playing with mixed mediums and have always been inspired by the dark fairy tale feel of fims like Pan's Labyrinth.  This film is far, far from Pans Labyrinth but, rough as it is, I'm still very proud of the work we did on it and look forward to experimenting and growing further as a narrative director in the future.  

I have worked extensively as an editor on a wide variety of short form projects, many of which have gone on to play at festivals across the country.  My focus as an editor is on character and story.  For me, it's not about flash and style, but the fundamental building blocks of telling a compelling story.

Colorado born and raised.  Studied art and film production.  Been writing and drawing since I was a kid.  Comic book nerd.  Favorite whiskey is Makers Mark or TinCup and my current ride is a tricked out 2015 Yamaha Bolt motorcycle (sometimes I begrudgingly drive a car too...).

I am currently directing a feature length documentary about independent comic book artists.  Two samples from that project are included below.  If you would like to know more about that film, click the link in the navigation bar for "The Indies Documentary" 

As an editor, I have cut a wide variety of projects including short films, feature documentary segments, promotional videos and web series.  Editing has always been, and continues to be, an area of film that I have a deep interest and love for.  In addition to editing, I have also have professional experience as an assistant editor.

Perhaps my greatest passion and my current focus, in addition to my documentary work, is writing.  I have completed two feature length scripts (Fantasy & Horror), as well as a sitcom spec.  I am currently working on developing a variety of new projects including a horror feature film, a serialized horror pilot, and a drama spec-script that I'll be submitting  to various writing programs.  In the meantime, I am on the hunt for any opportunities to continue working and growing as a writer.   


My first feature screenplay, Parifal,  is currently available for viewing on www.blcklst.com and has received a number of highly positive professional evaluations.

Parifal tells the story of Oliver Hill, a successful but emotionally unstable author whose world is turned upside down when a character from his fantasy novels appears with a warning of danger.  The two embark on a cross country adventure that will change Oliver's life forever.

My second feature screenplay, Feral,  was selected as an official entry in the Silver Scream Film Festival.  Organized by the publication Famous Monsters of Film Land, the festival is focused on celebrating genre films; with a mission "to find the next great genre filmmakers and share their creations with the world."

Feral is the story of Adam Grenier, a recovered addict, and his estranged son, Charles, who are forced to rebuild their relationship after the death of Charles' mother.  Their new life together takes a deadly turn when they meet a dangerous vagabond named Mr. Stubb, who is all too eager to share his past and his curse.

While attending USC, I studied both feature screenplay and spec-sitcom writing.  I love the world of television and would relish the opportunity to work in TV.  

Below is the first act of a spec I wrote in the sitcom class at USC for Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23.  The class was run as a writers room, and was taught by Jim Staahl who has worked as both a producer, writer and actor on multiple shows including Bobby's World, Young Hercules, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Animation, drawing, storyboarding , photography.  I've done a little bit of everything.  Even helped design and execute a large scale sculpture piece that was displayed at the Denver International Airport.

My artwork is mostly an exercise of personal expression, not a professional endeavor, though I have done graphic design and storyboarding work in the past.   Art has always been a part of my life.  Long before I wanted to work in film, I dreamed of being a comic book artist.   
Ink wash and Sketchbook Pro are my favorite drawing tools these days. 

I studied art and animation at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.  
Art is the technique of communication.  The image is the most complete technique of all communication.
